Auburn is a city in Barrow and Gwinnett counties in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 6,887.
Auburn is located in western Barrow County at 34°1′0″N 83°49′55″W. It is 42 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta and 27 miles west of Athens.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 6.5 square miles, of which 6.4 square miles is land and 0.03 square miles, or 0.39%, is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 6,904 people, 2,260 households, and 1,846 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,293.3 people per square mile. There were 2,322 housing units at an average density of 435.0 per square mile.
In the town the population was spread out with 33.7% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 41.5% from 25 to 44, 13.3% from 45 to 64, and 3.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females there are 103.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 103.2 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $51,346, and the median income for a family was $52,695. Males had a median income of $37,392 versus $24,381 for females. The per capita income for the town was $20,023. About 3.6% of families and 5.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.1% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
